چکیده

We explore the dependence of the amplitude of stellar dynamo cycle variability (as seen in the Mount Wilson Ca II HK timeseries data) on other stellar parameters. We find that the fractional cycle amplitude Acyc (i.e. the ratio of the peak– to–peak variation to the average) decreases somewhat with mean activity, increases with decreasing effective temperature, but is not correlated with inverse Rossby number Ro. We find that Acyc increases with the ratio of cycle and rotational frequencies ωcyc/Ω along two, nearly parallel branches.

A&a Manuscript No. Cycle times and Magnetic Amplitudes in Nonlinear 1d 2 -dynamos

A nonlinear, 1D-slab, 2-dynamo is analysed for magnetic eld amplitudes and for the relation between the cycle time and the dynamo number. If the only nonlin-earity is the conventional-quenching, the magnetic eld strongly grows with the dynamo number, while the dependence of the cycle time is only rather weak. The opposite is true if the nonlinear feedback is more consistently included: the comp...

Cyclic Evolution of Coronal Fields from a Coupled Dynamo Potential-Field Source-Surface Model

The structure of the Sun's corona varies with the solar-cycle phase, from a near spherical symmetry at solar maximum to an axial dipole at solar minimum. It is widely accepted that the large-scale coronal structure is governed by magnetic fields that are most likely generated by dynamo action in the solar interior. In order to understand the variation in coronal structure, we couple a potential...

Magnetic field escape from a stellar convection zone and the dynamo-cycle period

Traditionally, dynamo theories have predicted periods for stellar activity cycles that are much shorter than is observed. We argue that this problem can be solved by allowing for the non-free escape of magnetic fields through the surface boundary. New boundary conditions are suggested that largely reduce magnetic flux escape from the dynamo region compared to the traditional vacuum conditions. ...

Kinematic Dynamo Wave in the Vicinity of the Solar Poles

We consider a dynamo wave in the solar convective shell for the kinematic αω-dynamo model. The spectrum and eigenfunctions of the corresponding equations are derived analytically with the aid of the WKB method. Our main aim here is to investigate the dynamo wave behavior in the vicinity of the solar poles. Explicit expressions for the incident and reflected waves are obtained. The reflected wav...

Hysteresis cycle in a turbulent, spherically bounded MHD dynamo model

We report direct numerical magnetohydrodynamic simulations at low magnetic Prandtl numbers of a turbulent two-cell flow in a bounded, spherical geometry, driven by a constant body force. The flow amplifies infinitesimal magnetic perturbations if the magnetic Reynolds number Rm is larger than a threshold Rmc, resulting in a self-excited equatorial magnetic dipole. However, finite amplitude pertu...
